As only Jeremi Chapman can describe in the invite, CAMP DOWN 09 is “grown men with pit bulls, a chessie, meat, whiskey, guns, dry ice, arrows, illicts, and and an overwhelming desire to keep it tender, will descend upon a small area near the Georgia Tennessee border know as JACK RIVER FALLS. You have been invited to join this epic vast historic venture through space, time, and my lower GI tract. When I say historic I mean that old crackly women all over North America, have double dead bolted there doors in fear over the thought of this trip actually happening. They’re scared, and they should be. You see this is not simply a camping trip; this is more like a laundry list of felonies waiting to be committed. The entire concept of CAMP DOWN 09 is similar to stabbing a domesticated circus bear in the face. It’s a very fun, yet very horrible idea.” Gotta love it! As described I am venturing fourth on this epic journey to Jack River Falls. While I am putting together my backpack I thought I would make a post on what to pack for an overnight stay in the loins of Mother Earth. Below is a list of 10 essentials for your backpack.
- Shelter:
- Fire:
- Water:
- Sleeping bag
- Camp hatchet or fold out saw.
- Knife or multi-tool
- First aid kit:
- Map of the area.
- Compass
- Para cord
Tents are nice but somewhat heavy. I prefer a silnylon tarp with a cord. For Camp Down 09 I am gonna try out a hammock set up made out of silnylon material which is pretty light with a silnylon tarp overtop and mosquito net.
A lighter is a litter easier than a fire steel but, let’s face it not as cool.
A container with a filter or purification tabs.
Bring a sleeping pad to.
Try to include a snake bite kit. You can buy kits but, I prefer to make my own.
There are so many uses for it that it should be included in the list. 20 to 30 feet doesn’t take up much space.
